    Melanin is a pigment naturally produced by the skin to protect itself against the harmful effects of UV rays. In fact, melanin has the ability to absorb ultraviolet rays and thus to a certain extent protects skin from aggressive solar radiation.
    Found in the epidermis, melanocytes are the cells responsible for synthesising melanin.

     

    This process of synthesis is constant and determines skin colour, particularly due to the number, type and size of these pigments, which colour neighbouring cells
    in the epidermis. Yet melanin production is designed to increase when skin is exposed to UV rays, giving it the matte and brown shade typical of a tan.
    In order to achieve such a highly sought-after tanned complexion more quickly, deeply and long lastingly, it is now possible to directly stimulate the synthesis and transport of melanin to the outer layers of the skin.
